Lenovo has unveiled the third generation of its convertible Yoga laptop in London. This two-in-one device, which seamlessly transitions between tablet and laptop modes, has garnered a loyal following in its category. This year, it introduces enticing new features internally and a distinctly unique design externally. Unlike previous models, the Yoga concept now rotates not only on a hinge but also on a belt.
This innovative design, touted by Lenovo as more durable, contributes to the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro being thinner and lighter than its predecessors. Furthermore, the exterior boasts a higher resolution display despite its 13-inch size, featuring a qHD screen with Harmony technology to cater to individual preferences.
Sleeker, lighter, and with a distinctive hinge The latest generation of Lenovo maintains a slim profile of 12.8mm when opened, and this year, it sheds even more weight to reach just 1.19 kilograms. The most notable enhancement lies in the unconventional hinge mechanism, comprised of 800 steel and aluminum components, making it more flexible and robust than its predecessor. Unlike the previous two-hinge design, the new hinge boasts six points of articulation. Upon hands-on inspection, we will determine if it lives up to the durability promised by the Chinese manufacturer.
Despite the change in hinge design, the Yoga 3 Pro still offers four modes: laptop, tablet, stand (for video playback), and what Lenovo terms as “store mode.” The 13-inch touchscreen boasts a qHD resolution of 3,200 x 1,800 pixels and is protected by Gorilla Glass to withstand bumps and scratches.
The display is complemented by Harmony software, which automatically adjusts screen settings based on usage, eliminating the need for manual adjustments with each application.
Lenovo switches to Intel Core M Under the hood, the Yoga 3 Pro features an Intel Core M processor, a smaller yet more powerful chip. Whether Lenovo leverages this for voice command capabilities remains to be seen.
Storage capacity varies depending on configuration, with options for up to 512GB SSD. Similarly, the integrated Intel Graphics and RAM are customizable based on the chosen model. The battery, boasting 44Whr, promises up to 9 hours of usage at 150 nits.
In the audio department, Lenovo partners with JBL speakers featuring Waves Audio certification, providing dynamic sound tailored to the content being consumed. While initially limited to a selection of applications, Lenovo suggests compatibility with over fifty apps, though specific details remain undisclosed.
